More time to recover from major flooding
There will be a brand new feel to the Dick's Sporting Goods Open in Endicott next year. The Champions Tour has announced the golf tournament will be moved from being played in the month of June to the week of August 13-19, 2012.
The new date has been implemented for this upcoming year only, in order to allow the En-Joie Golf Club more time to recover following the major flooding damage sustained from Tropical Storm Lee.
"The Endicott community shows tremendous support for the Champions Tour each year during Dick's Sporting Goods Open week," said Champions Tour President Mike Stevens. "We want to take every step possible to ensure we provide them a first-class event and give our players ideal playing conditions. This move for next year will allow us to do that."
"As title sponsor of the Dick's Sporting Goods Open, our goal is to give golf fans and the Endicott community an enjoyable on-course experience and an exciting, highly-competitive event featuring a top-level Champions Tour field," said Lauren Hobart, Chief Marketing Officer, Dick's Sporting Goods. "We're confident this move from June to August will deliver exactly that, and we look forward to hosting what we anticipate will be our best tournament ever in 2012."
"The support shown by Dick's Sporting Goods, the Champions Tour, our players and Broome County has been tremendous during these trying times," said Tournament Director John Karedes, "Through everybody's cooperation Broome County Community Charities, Inc. will be able to continue raising money for our local charities."
The sponsoring organization for the tournament Broome County Community Charities has donated over $9.6 million to area charities since 1974.
