Most SU Football fans are still wishing Chandler Jones would have returned for his senior season with the Orange, but since he's not, they're wishing him well at the next level.
Jones, a native of Endicott in the Southern Tier, took part in the NFL combine on Monday with 57 other defensive linemen. Jones certainly put up some impressive numbers as well.
Jones posted top-5 finishes in the vertical jump, broad jump, and cone running drill. He posted a vertical jump number of 35 inches, 120 inches in the broad jump and completed the cone drill in 7.07 seconds.
Chandler's 40 yard dash time of 4.87 seconds was also good enough for 15th best among defensive lineman.
The one exercise he did not perform well in was the bench press, with 22 repetitions which was 3rd worst among defensive linemen that participated in the drill.
Jones is expected to be drafted anywhere from the late first round to the third round. Chandler's character and bloodlines are other intangibles that NFL scouts are impressed with; his brother Arthur (former SU defensive tackle) is a defensive lineman for the Baltimore Ravens, and his brother Jon "Bones" Jones is the UFC light heavyweight champion.
