It was the first Section III basketball championships held in the Carrier Dome, and it resulted in a first for Jamesville-Dewitt.

For the first time in school history, J-D captured the Class A Girls Basketball Section III Championship, by defeated Cortland 47-38. The Red Rams are now 20-1 on the campaign and showed true mettle over their 17 point lead was cut to 5 late in the fourth quarter.

But Cydney Goodrum had a key basket and the foul, on the heels of a made free throw to help put the game out of reach and help deliver J-D to the Section III Championship. Goodrum finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The first game of the night at the Carrier Dome featured a game that went down to the wire with Oriskany and Hamilton in Class D. Shannon VanShufflin's basket with just under 9 seconds to play was enough to lift Oriskany to the 35-33 victory and the Class D Championship.

With the victories tonight, J-D and Oriskany earn the right to represent Central New York against the rest of the state in the New York State Tournament which starts next week.
