Syracuse Crunch beats Binghamton; betters playoff position

Syracuse, NY (April 4, 2012) - The Syracuse Crunch defeated I-81 rivals the Binghamton Senators 5-1 and extended their point streak to 11 games tonight at the War Memorial Arena.

With five regular season games remaining the Crunch are in playoff position, ranked seventh in the Eastern Conference.

The Crunch opened the scoring with five-on-three power-play goal from Peter Holland at the 9:43 mark of the first period. Holland found the back of Robin Lehner's net while Binghamton's Tim Conboy and Mark Borowiecki were serving penalties for cross-checking and delay of game respectively.

The Senators tied the game with just 1:37 to play in the opening frame when Jack Downing put the puck past Crunch goaltender Iiro Tarkki.

Just over four minutes into the second period the Crunch regained the lead thanks to a goal from Dan Sexton. J.F. Jacques would then extend the Crunch lead just 24 seconds later when his 21st goal of the season made the score 3-1.

Left wings John Mitchell and Josh Brittain chipped in goals in the final frame resulting in the final score of 5-1.

Crunchables: With a win tonight Iiro Tarkki moved into 7th place on the Crunch single season list, breaking a tie with Pascale LeClaire…Riley Holzapfel has points in 10 of his last 11 games…The Crunch have points in their last nine home games.
