Will it be a special week for West Genesee lacrosse?

As if it weren't special enough for the West Genesee boys lacrosse team to be 6-0 on the season, with wins over teams from Rochester, Chicago and even the local powers like Fayetteville-Manlius, the week could become even more special.

That's because when the Wildcats take the field tomorrow night against Auburn, they'll be fighting for a win of course, but that win would put Head Coach Mike Messere in a tie for the winningest high school lacrosse coach in New York State history.

The win would be the 747th of Messere's West Genesee coaching career, and tie him with  former Ward Mellville/Mt. Sinai coach Joe Cuozzo.

Should the Wildcats defeat Auburn, they would attempt to have Messere be atop the coaching mountain on  Thursday when West Genny hosts Oswego at 7 p.m.

As you would expect, Coach Messere is more focused on keeping his team undefeated, and senior Ryan Tinklepaugh tells us this team is different. It's having more fun, and enjoying the game more which is relieving pressure and allowing the 'Cats to crush the competition so far.
