It was a valiant run for the Westhill Warriors, but it ended two games shy of the team's ultimate goal.

The Warriors fell to Oneonta 4-1 in the New York State Class B quarterfinals on Tuesday at DeLutis Field in Rome. The Warriors end the season with a 20-5 record.

Ben Walsh fought hard starting on the hill for Westhill but the visiting Yellow Jackets scored three runs in the top of the first, highlighted by a 2-run double from Chris Pindar. Walsh was relieved by Alex Godzak with the bases loaded in the top of the 2nd, Godzak gave up a bloop single, that scored a run charged to Walsh. From there though, Godzak was lights out not allowing another run the rest of the way.

The problem though, was Oneonta hurler Ben Moxley was just as spectacular only allowing one run for Westhill in the bottom of the first when Tyler Thomas grounded out to short, but J.C. Pena was able to score.

Westhill does finish a great campaign as Section III champs for the 9th time in the past 11 seasons, reaching a point that many thought wouldn't be possible after having to replace stars like Nathan Nigolian and Kevin McAvoy.
