You can now add Za'Von Watkins into the Mount Rushmore of Central New York's greatest middle distance runners. With Watkins's first place finish Friday afternoon in the 800 Meter at Cicero-North Syracuse High School, he can now add a State Championship and a Federation Title, to his seemingly endless list of accolades.

Watkins was able to edge out Horsehead's Brian Crimmins, with an eye popping time of 1:51.21

Watkins was very enthusiastic when discussing his victory, "It means so much to me. In 9th grade we won {as a team}, but coming back winning the 800 again in my hometown it feels amazing. All my friends are here to support me and stuff so it means so much man! I'm so happy about it".

The Liverpool Senior claims ownership to 11 sectional records, including a state record in the 800 meter indoor, with a mark of 1:50.11

Watkins will look to boost an already juggernaut Penn State squad next fall, as the Nittany Lions offered the track star a full scholarship.

If Watkins can translate his high school success to the next level, the folks in State College are in for quite a treat.
