Cooperstown's Sarah Groff came just about as close as you could get to an Olympic medal in the triathlon on Saturday, but fell just short. In arguably the most demanding Olympic event, Groff fell just 10 seconds short of a bronze medal, finishing just behind Australia's Erin Densham, with the winner Nicola Spirig of Switzerland and Sweden's Lisa Norden, the silver medalist, involved in a photo finish to the event.

Groff said afterwards through tears, according to the Los Angeles Times, "If you don't have a kick, you don't have a kick. I didn't have it. There's nothing I could do at that point."

Groff tried to take the finish in stride, but seemed to indicate that this could motivate her even more moving forward. "Fourth is the worst position to be in," said Groff, "but at the of the day I'm an Olympian. Obviously, I came here to try to get a medal. And I didn't. But only three people get a medal. I'm going to have to wait another four years."
