SYRACUSE -- If you are a NYSEG customer who takes part in their wind energy program, you may have reduced carbon-emissions equivalent to the planting of one acre of trees last year.
In 2012, NYSEG and RG&E bought 71.2 million kilowatt-hours of clean, renewable electricity from wind farmers through their “Catch the Wind” program.
That’s enough to power nearly 6,300 homes for an entire year. All of the wind energy bought was generated in New York.
Wind energy sales were down nearly 4% in 2012. NYSEG says that they bought 74 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy in 2011.
“Offering our customers the opportunity to purchase clean, renewable wind energy is a natural fit with our commitment to environmental stewardship. We are pleased that after nearly a decade of making wind energy available, our customers continue to support the program.” said Mark S. Lynch, president of NYSEG and RG&E.
