SYRACUSE -- The line of severe thunderstorms that swept through the Syracuse area caused some problems for residents this morning.
The Onondaga 911 Center took a number of calls of power lines down and trees down as a result of the storm. National Grid is currently reporting that approximately 540 customers are without power in Oswego County, with 320 out in Oneida County and less than a hundred each in Onondaga County and Madison County. This is down from a mid-morning high of around 4,000 homes without power in Onondaga County.
Seneca Falls schools were on a two hour delay because of a power outage, and the Onondaga Nation Schools are closed for the same reason.
Overall, as many as 11,000 homes and businesses in upstate New York were temporarily without power Monday morning.
Among the more than a dozen calls into the Onondaga County 911 center, power lines were down on West Calthrop Avenue in the city. There was also a large tree downed on Lafayette Road, just south of Seneca Turnpike. In Marcellus, a tree fell onto the roof of a small house, causing extensive damage to the upper floor of the home. No one was injured in that incident.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for most portions of upstate New York. Gusts reached 40-50 miles per hour in some areas. There's also a lakeshore flood advisory from some areas along Lake Erie in western New York.
NYSEG says there were about 4,500 customers without power in the Buffalo and Finger Lakes regions.
