ALBANY (AP) -- State officials are warning campers and boaters about a high fire danger and low water levels due to hot weather and a lack of rain over the past 10 days.

The Department of Environmental Conservation says three brush fires in the Adirondacks have burned eight acres of wild lands. One was started by an unattended campfire.

The agency hasn't banned campfires, but is advising extra care including thoroughly drowning a campfire with water before leaving it.

DEC spokesman Dave Winchell said the agency also planned to issue a boating warning Thursday because some lake and river levels have dropped to the point where boaters need to watch out for rocks.

The U.S. Geological Survey shows many streams and rivers around the state at low levels.
