That old saying, an apple a day keeps the doctor away may be truer than we think.  Add pears or red grapes to the saying, and researchers say you can reduce the risk of pancreatic cancer by 25%.

Dr. Rich O'Neill, psychologist and medical researcher at SUNY Upstate, says the three fruits have extra doses of flavanoids, and comparisons of hospitalized people with pancreatic cancer to those without showed the 'immune' ones were eating at least one extra portion a day of the fruits.   Flavanoids are known to regulate the proliferation and mutation of cells, and are already  linked to lower risk of breast and other cancers.

The latest study  is published in the journal Annals of Oncology.  You need a subscription to read the study, but find a synopsis here.
