CAPE VINCENT (AP) -- No one was inside a minivan when it rolled off a ferry crossing the St. Lawrence River along New York's northern border with Canada.

Watertown media outlets report that Horne's Ferry was under way Tuesday afternoon between Cape Vincent in Jefferson County and Wolfe Island, Ontario when the van began to roll, knocked down a raised ramp on the vessel's side and fell into the water.

The ferry's crew managed to attach a line to the van, and the vehicle and the ferry were towed to a Cape Vincent marina by another boat.

Three people traveling in the van were standing on the ferry's deck when the vehicle went into the river.

State police say after the accident, ferry owner George Horne suffered an apparent heart attack and was taken to Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown.
