SYRACUSE -- Two people were arrested after a shots fired incident that occurred in the 700 block of South Salina Street around 7:50 PM on Tuesday night, according to the Syracuse Police Department.

Police say officers Greg Staub and Shawn Hauck were in area of the 700 block of South Salina Street when they noticed a large group of young people in the parking lot of a Burger King, which is located at 700 South Salina.

While observing a second large group of youngsters across the street, the officers heard a loud blast and then several smaller "pops" coming from the Burger King.  Police say the sound appeared to be consistent with gunfire.

Police say the officers stopped their vehicle and ran towards the Burger King parking lot.

Officers say they saw a male, later identified as 16-year-old Delvon Harrison, of Valley Drive in Syracuse, throw a handgun as he attempted to run away.  After a short chase and struggle with the officers, Harrison was taken into custody.

The handgun that police say Harrison threw was a loaded RG Industries .22 caliber revolver that had two spent casings and four live rounds.

Police say a second male suspect was apprehended in the Burger King parking lot without incident.  Police say that a Hi-Point .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun was found next to him.  He was later identified as 16-year-old Jamar Shepard of Merriman Avenue in Syracuse.

A third male was also taken into custody but was released without being charged.

Police say a search of the parking lot turned up spent .380 caliber casings on the ground, along with a shotgun wadding.

Harrison was charged with reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon and resisting arrest.  Shepard was charged with reckless endangerment and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

Both teens were sent to the Justice Center and are scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday morning in Syracuse City Court.

Police say it does not appear that anyone was hurt in the incident.
