UTICA -- Utica police say a 14 year old brought a BB gun to a basketball game Tuesday night at Donovan Middle School, forcing the game to end early. Police took the teen into custody after they say he accidentally dropped the gun during Tuesday night's game.

An off-duty Utica police officer was at the girls modified basketball game when he heard something hit the hardwood floor and noticed the teenage boy pick up the handgun. The off-duty officer yelled to an on duty officer at the game and they chased him out of gym.

The boy then pointed the gun at the officers outside the building and they repeatedly ordered him to drop the gun. They were eventually able to convince him to drop it and they discovered it was a BB gun.

The teenager's name isn't being released because of his age. The police have not yet released the charges he will face.
