VERONA -- *Update*-Shelby Schumacher told sheriff's deputies that she didn't notice the railroad crossing arms across the road or the flashing red lights and audible sirens when she crashed into an Amtrak train with 182 passengers on Sunday, January 27th. No one was injured in the crash. Schumacher was ticketed for driving through/around a traffic gate, according to deputies.

A witness to the crash, 31-year-old Derrick Fowler of Vernon, was also ticketed for driving around the gates. Both Schumacher and Fowler are set to appear in Town of Verona court at a later date.

A woman from Middleville, Herkimer County, drove her car into the side of an Amtrak train on Blackmans Corners Road in the Town of Verona just after 3:00 p.m. Sunday, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s office.

Deputies say 29-year-old Shelby L. Schumacher didn’t stop at a train crossing and hit the second engine of an Amtrak train heading west.

Schumacher was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital for evaluation.

The train had 182 passengers and four Amtrak employees, none of whom were injured.
