CLARENCE (AP) -- State police say a 52-year-old driver who wound up in a ditch while drunk had been charged with drunken driving 18 hours earlier on the same day in western New York.

Troopers say Earl Williams of Springville, south of Buffalo, was charged with driving while intoxicated following an accident in the town of Boston about 8:15 p.m. Sunday.

A search of his vehicle turned up a ticket from the Erie County Sheriff's Department from 2 a.m. Sunday, indicating Williams had been arrested for driving while intoxicated in the town of Concord.

A telephone listing in Williams' name has been disconnected. It wasn't known Monday if he has a lawyer.
