SYRACUSE -- The National Weather Service says wind gusts could top 60 mph in parts of upstate New York as a cold front drives temperatures down from record winter highs and brings expected heavy rain in eastern areas and lake-effect snow to western parts of the state.
There are high wind warnings and advisories for Central New York. Winds are expected to blow at 25 to 35 miles per hour. However, gusts could reach as high as 55 miles per hour.
Flash flood and flood warnings were issued for Madison and Oneida counties through 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The weather service has also issued a high wind warning for much of eastern New York from Wednesday night through Thursday evening, with flood watches in effect from the Adirondacks south to the Hudson Valley and Catskills. Winds could gust as high as 65 mph Thursday afternoon, when temperatures are expected to fall into the 20s from highs in the 50s Wednesday morning.
Temperatures climbed into the 60s in western New York Wednesday, with 65 in Buffalo and 61 in Rochester both breaking records.
The record warmth for January 30th, 54 degrees set back in 2006, should be broken on Wednesday according to CNY Central meteorologist Peter Hall.
