The last of the snowstorm warnings and weather and travel advisories are lifted for Central New York, with nothing but cleanup left for this Saturday. There were virtually no power outages here, and plows, both from highway departments and independent contractors, worked through the night to get roads in shape.
It is another story Downstate. By late morning, 650-thousand customers were without power from the New York City area up through New England.
Boston has 18 inches of snow, officially, but up to 3 feet is expected before it's over. Some Massachusetts coastal communities, including Salisbury and Quincy, are evacuating because of storm surge flooding. Residents of Hull are now being urged to evacuate as the water is running down streets. New York City has a foot of snow in Central Park, with Mayor Bloomberg promising all city streets will be cleared by the end of the day. Hauppage, Long Island reports 30 inches.
Connecticut is facing both snow and wind. 38" of snow in central parts of the state, with gusts up to 82 miles per hour.
Airports in Boston and all three of New York City's major airports are shut down.
The US Postal Service has cancelled Saturday delivery to six affected states: Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
